Meet The Founders

Know The Road was founded by Steve and Jodie Broadbent, bringing together two careers shaped by different parts of the Australian road transport industry. 

Their experience, perspectives and areas of expertise are different — and deliberately so.

Steve Broadbent

Transport Operations Specialist 

Steve brings more than 40 years of hands-on transport experience to Know The Road, spanning professional driving, transport operations, safety leadership and industry engagement. 

His career has given him an understanding of transport from the driver's seat through to operational management — including the practical realities of making systems, procedures and safety requirements work in day-to-day operations.

In 2023, Steve was recognised as Professional Driver of the Year at the National Trucking Industry Awards, reflecting his contribution to the industry and commitment to professionalism in road transport.

Today, Steve brings that operational perspective to KTR's work with transport businesses, helping ensure that the systems and solutions we develop are not only compliant on paper, but workable in practice.

Jodie Broadbent

Transport Safety & Compliance Specialist

Jodie brings more than 30 years of experience in the Australian road transport industry, spanning safety, compliance, accreditation, auditing, systems development and industry advocacy. 

As a Lead Auditor and compliance specialist, she has worked with transport businesses across Australia — from small operators through to major organisations — helping them understand their obligations, identify risk and build practical systems that support safer operations.

Her experience extends beyond consulting. Jodie has contributed to national transport initiatives, industry committees and policy discussions, bringing the practical experiences of transport businesses into broader industry conversations.

Her focus is straightforward: compliance should help a business operate better. Systems should be practical, requirements should be understandable, and businesses should know not only what they need to do, but why it matters.

Know The Road brings together two perspectives that don't often sit under the same roof: Decades of hands-on transport operations experience and specialist expertise in safety, compliance, auditing and management systems. 

Steve brings the perspective of decades spent on the road and in day-to-day transport operations. Jodie brings specialist expertise in the systems, assurance and regulatory requirements that support them.

That combination is what matters.

A system can look perfect on paper and still fail in practice. Equally, a business can have experienced people doing good work but struggle to demonstrate that its risks are being managed effectively.

Our job is to bring those two worlds together.

We look at what is required, how the business actually operates, and what will realistically work for the people expected to use the system. The result is practical advice and solutions grounded in both operational reality and compliance expertise.
